It seems wrong that individuals should have the right to destroy the environment, others’ health, and their own well-being. If this is acceptable, then the state should at least make some money off of this societal smoking problem. If unacceptable, people must stand up for what is right.
We can all begin by giving a piece of our mind to those who contaminate the air and environment, and disregard their negative impact. Who needs people like this? While I’m sure they are serving some greater purpose, couldn’t they show a little bit of consideration for others, the future of the environment, or their health?
The next improvement would require enforcement from the law. When they see people littering (throwing cigarette butts on the ground) the $500 fee needs to be collected by the police. This is better for the environment and makes money for the state; win/win.
Finally, the government should step in and raise the tax even more. Most smokers, unfortunately, are addicted and are going to buy cigarettes regardless of the cost.
If anyone wants to get involved in a movement to raise awareness about this, I’d love to organize a race for smoke-free air, please comment. I feel the necessity to do something other than get angry and suffer.
Smokers: negatively impacting the environment and health of all. What will you do to make a difference today?
